Taylor Swift to direct first feature film with Oscar-winning studio Searchlight Pictures

Taylor Swift is set to direct her first feature film.

According to a report by Variety, the multi-talented artist will be directing a movie with Searchlight Pictures.

Taylor has already written a script for the upcoming movie.

Cast members and the plot have yet to be announced.

“Taylor is a once in a generation artist and storyteller. It is a genuine joy and privilege to collaborate with her as she embarks on this exciting and new creative journey,” Searchlight Presidents David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield said in a statement as reported by Variety.

Searchlight Pictures is a film production company and a subsidiary of Walt Disney Studios.

The production company is behind Oscar-winning films like Slumdog Millionaire, 12 Years a Slave, Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), The Shape of Water, and Nomadland.

On November 13, 2021, Taylor released the first short film she directed, All Too Well: The Short Film.

During a talk at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival in New York in July, Taylor shared the vision that she had when creating the short film for her song “All Too Well.”

“I wanted to make a film about an effervescent, curious young woman who ends up completely out of her depth. You know when you’re walking into the ocean? It’s so fun, the idea of going out so far your feet don’t touch the ground. But you can get swept away,” she remarked.

Prior to that, Taylor directed numerous music videos. The first music video she directed was for her song “The Man” off her Lover album in 2019.

“I didn’t go to film school. I’ve been on the set of around 60 music videos and I’ve learned a lot from that process. But when I did it on my own, I really began to learn everything, because you have to,” Taylor said in an interview at The Toronto Film Festival back in September.

She added, “It was always a part of the process, establishing visuals,” she recalled of her early singing career, where she involved herself in creating and shooting music videos. “The more responsibility I took on, the happier I was.”

At the same event, Taylor expressed her desire to direct her first feature film.

“If it were the right thing, it would be such a privilege and honor. I will always want to tell human stories about human emotion,” she remarked.

She continued, “It’s really beautiful that we’re in a place where the idea of a female filmmaker doesn’t make you roll your eyes or think as skeptically as it once was.”

On December 8, Taylor released the behind the scenes video of the making of All Too Well: The Short Film.

The video featured Taylor directing various scenes in the short film.

“The first seeds of this short film were planted over ten years ago, and I’ll never forget the behind the scenes moments of the shoot. I owe everything to @sadiesink_, Dylan O’Brien, my incredible DP @the_rinayang and my producer @saulysaulysauly,” Taylor posted on social media upon the release of the behind the scenes video.

“I also want to say thank you to our wonderful background actors and crew who made this story come to life so naturally. I loved every second of it and I will always remember it. All. Too. Well. The behind the scenes footage of ATW the short film is out now!” she added.
