Jin of the South Korean supergroup BTS has joined his country’s military on Tuesday, December 13, according to news reports.
Born Kim Seok-jin, the 30-year-old singer was the first member from the popular group to enlist in the military. BTS’s record label Big Hit Music confirmed in October that all members of the group will fulfill their mandatory military service.
“[Jin] will then follow the enlistment procedure of the Korean government. Other members of the group plan to carry out their military service based on their own individual plans,” the label said at the time.
It also said that they will not be holding an official event on the day of Jin’s recruitment.
“The entrance ceremony is a time to be observed by military personnel and their families only,” Big Hit added. “In order to prevent any issues that might occur from crowding, we ask fans to please refrain from visiting the site.
“Instead, We ask you to keep your heartwarming words of support and farewell in your hearts.”
Prior to his enlistment, Jin sent millions of K-pop fans abuzz after he debuted his freshly shaved head on social media.
BTS debuted in 2013 and has become the biggest K-pop act in the world. Other members include RM, Suga, J-hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook.
The group is known for its songs “Butter,” “Dynamite,” “Fire,” “Boy With Luv,” and “Permission to Dance.”
