Erik Santos on losing his mom Angelita to cancer: ‘I will honor you for the rest of my life’
Singer Erik Santos pays tribute to his late mom Angelita who passed away last December 1 at the age of 66.
After losing his mother Angelita to cancer last December 1, singer Erik Santos continues to honor his parent’s memory in his most recent social media posts.
In one post, he wrote, “My Nanay was an inspiring soul. She was beautiful inside and out. She taught me love, generosity, resilience, humility and gratitude. Her humor and kindness were so contagious. I love you so much, Mommy. I miss you terribly. Terribly… so much.”
Last December 19, the 40-year-old crooner shared a touching photo of himself and his mom holding hands for the last time. He wrote, “Let me share with you this testimonial video of Nanay’s Medical Oncologist, Dr. Charity Gorospe and a photo of me holding Nanay’s hand the night before I left for the U.S. on November 2, 2022 at 10:53PM.
“As what the song conveys…
“‘Malilimutan ba ng ina.
Ang anak na galing sa kanya…’
“This shows how big our mothers’ love is for us. That even in the face of death, they’d do everything in their power to fight for their children.
“Sa personal kong paglalarawan, sinasabi ng Nanay ko, ;Sandali lang, hinihintay ko pa ang anak ko. Gusto ko tuparin ang pangako ko na hihintayin ko s’ya. Gusto ko pa s’ya makita.’
“‘Ngunit kahit na malimutan.
Ng ina ang anak niyang tangan.
Hindi kita malilimutan.
Kailanma’y di pababayaan…’
“God is the the one speaking here saying that His love for us is unimaginable. Too vast to even explain. It surpasses all understanding. And I personally witnessed this all throughout my Nanay’s cancer journey.
“Truly, nothing is impossible with Him. I know in my heart that He orchestrated everything. He extended Nanay’s life for us, her children, to be with her as she passed.
“It’s been my prayer that I’d be able to see her and be with her before she finally went home to heaven. In her last few hours, I cannot remember anymore how many times we prayed with her, surrendering everything to God, praising, honoring, and worshipping Him to the hilt.”
In the comments section, the kapamilya singer continued his post. “She would even respond when I made her listen to her favorite song- ‘Remember Us This Way’ by Lady Gaga. Then we would continue praising God with ‘Amazing Grace’ and other songs from my Hillsong playlist repeatedly.
“And as we prayed again, after we said, ‘in Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen,’ in less than a minute, she looked up, looked at me and closed her eyes. I never thought that was our last and final prayer with her.
“All of us, her children, were standing around her deathbed. She did not struggle, she left so peacefully, and literally died in my arms.
“What a blessing it was, Oh Lord. It was more than what I had been praying for. Thank you God, for letting us witness your love and your holy presence during her last hours, for granting my wish to be with her on her last day here on earth and for blessing her with such a beautiful death.
“We’ll never really know how much time we have on earth. So hug your loved ones as tightly as you can and remind them how much you love them everyday.
“‘As we grieve, we may come to realize that the person we love remains with us — in our hearts, in our thoughts and memories, and in the positive effect they had on our lives.’”
Erik’s friends in showbiz like KC Concepcion, Jolina Magdangal, and Vina Morales also extended their condolences.
In an earlier post, Erik also shared a video of himself singing at his mom’s service. He wrote, “Alam kong di’ ko kakayaning kumanta sa mga oras na ‘yon, pero pinilit ko, dahil alam kong iyon na ang huling pagkakataon na kantahan ka sa harap mo.
“‘Kulang ang magpakailan pa man.
Upang bawat sandali ay…
Upang muli’t muli ay…
Ang mahalin ay ikaw’
“I promise, I will honor you for the rest of my life.
Mahal na mahal na mahal kita, Nanay ko.
